Dahlias
Project type
Paintings
Date
2002-2004
Location
West Somerset, UK
Up close and personal portraits of dahlias, zooming in on the main flower head.
These paintings are more stylized and draw on traditions of very early botanical painting, where the flower is "stiffer" in appearance, with the painting itself having thicker outlines than is usual in more conventional botanical renderings.
Some of these dahlias came from the garden of Dunster rector Michael Grantham, who was well-known for his Open Garden days and award-winning dahlias!
